NBN Speed Upgrades

An exciting NBN speed upgrade is coming this September!

We are thrilled to share some great news! Your NBN connection is about to get a whole lot faster, thanks to a major upgrade being rolled out by EscapeNet and NBN Co.

Starting in mid-September, NBN Co will be increasing the speed tiers for several of their fastest plans on eligible Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC) technology. This means you can look forward to a more powerful and responsive internet experience, perfect for streaming, gaming, video calls, and running all your smart devices at once.

Here’s a quick overview of the changes:

  • Home Fast (NBN 100): Plans will be upgraded to a new speed of 500 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload (up to 5x faster downloads and 2.5x faster uploads).
  • Home Superfast (NBN 250): Plans will be upgraded to 750 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload (up to 3x faster downloads and 2x faster uploads).
  • Home Ultrafast (NBN 1000): Plans will get a boost to 100 Mbps upload speeds, with download speeds remaining up to 1000 Mbps (up to 2x faster uploads).

What these upgrades mean for you:

These upgrades are designed to support the growing demand for data-heavy online activities and future-proof your home. With faster speeds, you can expect:

  • Smoother Streaming & Gaming: Enjoy buffer-free streaming of 4K and 8K video, and a more responsive, lag-free experience for online gaming.
  • Better for Busy Households: Did you know that the average Australian household has around 25 connected devices. With more bandwidth, all of these can be online simultaneously without impacting performance.
  • Faster Downloads & Uploads: Both the Home Fast and Home Superfast plans will see significant improvements, with download speeds up to 5 times faster and upload speeds up to 2.5 times faster.

What you need to know:

Is my service getting upgraded?

These speed upgrades apply to customers on an NBN 100, NBN 250, or NBN 1000 plan with an eligible Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connection.

Will it cost more?

No. These speed upgrades are being offered at no extra cost to you. If you are on an eligible plan, your speed will increase automatically without any changes to your monthly bill.

Do I need to do anything?

For eligible customers, we'll handle everything! Your speed upgrade will be automatically applied to your service, and you won't need to change your plan or pay any extra fees. We'll send you a confirmation email once the upgrade is complete.

What if I’m not on FTTP or HFC?

If you are on an older technology like Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), you may be eligible for a no-cost upgrade to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). Upgrading to FTTP is the best way to access the faster speeds and improve the reliability of your internet connection.

You can check if your address is eligible for an upgrade on our website or by contacting our support team.

Getting the most from your new speed:

To ensure you get the best possible experience from your new, faster connection, here are a few things to consider:

  • 1. Use an Ethernet Cable: For activities that require the most speed and stability, like 4K streaming or online gaming, connect your device directly to your modem/router with a Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable.
  • 2. Connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi: Your Wi-Fi router typically broadcasts two networks: a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz network. For faster speeds, connect your devices to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network broadcast from your Wi-Fi router.

Your Router's Capabilities:

If you are already using an EscapeNet Wi-Fi 6 router on the 5GHz band, you should be all set to experience these faster speeds. Check out the table below to compare EscapeNet supplied devices with your current WiFi router.

About Wi-Fi 6 (AX):

Wi-Fi 6 is the most common modern technology found in routers today, including our latest models. Wi-Fi 6 is a significant upgrade from Wi-Fi 5, designed for modern smart homes with multiple connected devices. It focuses on improving network efficiency and capacity, allowing it to handle more devices simultaneously without slowing down, and it provides stronger security with WPA3 encryption.

About WPA3 Security:

WPA3 is the latest standard in Wi-Fi security. It provides more robust encryption for your wireless network, offering enhanced protection against password guessing and other security threats compared to the older WPA2 standard. If network security is a priority for you, a WPA3-enabled router is a great choice.
